Who We Are

Rachel Smith, Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, set up The Arc as she saw a need for children to practice their skills of interaction in groups of peers.

Rachel has run numerous social skills groups in Australia and the UK – with young children and with teenagers.

She enjoys the challenge and the fun of facilitating groups of children, helping them to communicate more effectively with other children, as well as with adults.

Rachel says:

In the 25 years since qualifying as a speech and language therapist I have worked in England and Australia in both the public and independent sectors. I have extensive experience working in mainstream and specialist education settings in both countries.

I work with children, teenagers and young adults with a range of needs including language and speech sound difficulties, stammering/stuttering, and social communication difficulties.

I have specialised, particularly, in working with social communication difficulties, including those experienced by individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I have worked in around 7 schools specialising in ASD in both Australia and the UK, including as the Head of Therapy in an independent special school for teenagers with ASD.”
